Student Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to define what private means, to recognize the type of information that is private, advise that they should never give out private information on the internet, define what a username is, and create effective usernames that protect their private information.

Essential Question: What kinds of information should I keep to myself when I use the internet?

There is certain personal information that we all need to know about ourselves. You need to know:

Your First Name (and how to spell it)
Your Last Name (and how to spell it)
Your Address
Your Phone Number
Your birth date
Your School's Name (and how to spell it)
Your Teacher's Name (and how to spell it)

Hint: If you don't know this information, you need to learn it and memorize it.

ASK: What would you do if someone you don't know (either in a meeting face-to-face or while you are online) asked you for your address and your phone number? Would you tell them your personal information?

ASK: What information do you think you need to keep private on the internet?

You should NEVER give out the following information to anyone online:

Your Real Name
Your Picture
Your Home Address
Your Phone Number
Your birth date
email address
Your School's Name
Your Teacher's Name
Your parents' names
Place your parents' work

ASK: What would you do if someone you don't know sent you an email, instant message, or text, asking for your address or phone number?

Think of some instances when you have had to fill out a form asking for personal information. Can you list some times that you or your parents have written in personal information and it has been okay?
