An avatar, when used in technology, can by anything visual used to represent a concept or idea that can't be seen. For example, an avatar of a puppy crying could represent a sad feeling.
Avatars are usually images used to represent a person in the virtual world within technology. An avatar does not have to look like or replicate the person who is using the avatar. Students often select objects they like such as rainbows, unicorns, flowers, sports, books, video game characters, or superheros to represent them.
