HOME ROW
​for Grade 2:
Essential Questions: 
  •  How do I use proper keyboarding technique?
  • What are Home Row keys?
  • How do I know which fingers to put on each key?
  • How can I find the Home Row keys on a blank keyboard or a keyboard with a Speedskin or another cover covering a computer keyboard?
Learning Objectives:
  • Identify the HOME ROW keys on the computer keyboard.
  • Place your correct fingers on the associated HOME ROW keys on the computer keyboard.
  • Identify and apply proper Keyboarding Techniques to learn how to touch type with accuracy and speed.

Sing the song to the tune of "Where is Thumpkin," and follow the images to learn how to place each finger on the home row keys on the computer keyboard.

There are two bumps on the bottom of the  Home Row Keys for F and J.  You use your pointer fingers to feel for these bumps first.  On a paper version of a blank computer keyboard, you will see small lines on the bottom of the F and J keys.  See the image below for an example:
